'So Much Simpler'

I ran, not looking back,
waiting for any kind of attack,
not knowing when,
where,
how,
why?
I have done what shouldn't be done,
I told myself it was all in fun,
but now I know it was all a lie,
so now I deserve to die.

If I could go back and do it again,
I would erase it all,
so that I alone would fall.
I would return to that dark place,
rain dripping on my face,
and erase it all.

I still run,
knowing the redemption is not yet done,
I still cry,
over the souls of people who didn't have to die,
I will fall,
before I can go back and erase it all,
I don't belong,
in places where hearts are strong,
I run,
because the pain is not undone.

I stay the same,
play the game,
though I know I'll lose,
I just don't want to choose.

The hate burns inside,
and there's nowhere to hide,
so, until all is done,
it's so much easier to run.
